Remi Wolf - “Michael”

“Michael” is one of three new tracks featured on the deluxe edition of California singer-songwriter Remi Wolf’s debut album “Juno.” A slightly distorted intro only hints at the frenzied undertone of this lush pop groove. “The song is about a manic and obsessed woman who craves the high she gets from Michael’s attention and is willing to delve deep into a masochistic toxic pit to get it,” Wolf explains.

Foyer Red - “Flipper”

Brooklyn rock band Foyer Red’s latest single “Flipper” is a cleverly arranged track featuring wild musical undulations assisted by producer Jonathan Schenke (Snail Mail, Parquet Courts, Liars, The Drums). Bandleader Elana Riordan describes the instrumental swing as “a way its subject vacillates between ‘reality’ and a dreamt-up post-apocalyptic world.”

SOAK - “Purgatory”

Northern Irish singer-songwriter Bridie Monds-Watson, better known as SOAK, dropped their new album “If I Never Know You Like This Again” in May. “Purgatory,” which is one of the dazzling standouts from the record, explores themes of uncertainty suggested in the song’s title. Monds-Watson explains that it’s “about the weight of time and the perpetual fear of reaching the end of your life, unsatisfied with how you’d spent it.”
