Cave In — “Nightmare Eyes”

Long-running hard rock band Cave In released its newest album called “Heavy Pendulum” back in May. A highlight is the truly epic track “Nightmare Eyes.” Punctuated by piercing keys and synths and towering guitars, the song relishes every second of its electrifying seven-minute-long runtime.

Carla Morrison — “Diamantes”

After walking away from the music industry in 2018 in order to focus on her mental health, decorated Mexican singer-songwriter Carla Morrison has returned with a new LP called “El Renacimiento.” The single “Diamantes” serves as a shining manifestation of her restored frame of mind. “I had to look inside and recognize the diamonds that lived in me and not just in a photo,” said Morrison, in a poignant reference to the song’s lyrics.

Allison de Groot and Tatiana Hargreaves — “I Would Not Live Always”

The old-time duo of Allison de Groot and Tatiana Hargreaves recently dropped its new album “Hurricane Clarice,” which features this stellar interpretation of the traditional song “I Would Not Live Always.” Hargreaves recently explained that they learned it from a recording of a fiddler named Clarence Ferrell whose image she was drawn to while digitizing photos for folk legend Alice Gerrard. Hargreaves and de Groot’s rendition of the song builds with an intense ferocity, navigated by haunting harmony and blistering banjo and fiddle playing.
