Clark County Councilors will hold a public hearing Tuesday to discuss the how they’ll proceed with the county’s growth management plan.

The county is weighing four different options for how it will management its future growth.

One option in particular is controversial because it would create more parcels of land in the county’s agricultural and rural areas.

“None of the land will change its use. It will stay ag or forest or rural," said Gordy Euler, the deputy director of community planning for Clark County. "But the proposal would essentially create a whole lot more lots in the rural area and there’s some people that think that’s not consistent with what the Growth Management Act is trying to do.”

Some in Clark County are concerned that rural areas would be developed as subdivisions.

The growth management plan is part of the county’s updated comprehensive plan.

Under Washington state law, the plan needs to be finalized by next July.
