The Federal Emergency Management Agency, or FEMA, opened an outreach center Friday in Stayton to assist Oregonians affected by wildfires.

FEMA’s External Outreach Center is located at the Stayton Community Center and is available to Marion and Linn County residents who were affected by the Beachie Creek Fire east of Salem.

That center joins FEMA’s other locations in Medford and Eugene that have also opened following the unprecedented wildfires that burned more than 1 million acres throughout Oregon last month.

The Stayton center offers in-person visits for residents to get information about disaster recovery assistance applications, ask questions about letters they have received from FEMA and to have documents scanned for applications.

Hours for all FEMA External Outreach Centers are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Face coverings are required for in-person visits, and visitors will receive temperature screenings.

At its center in Medford, FEMA said bilingual representatives will be available from its Hazard Mitigation program to provide tips on rebuilding, answer questions about home repair and on how to process flood insurance claims. People who cannot visit in person can also email questions to a Hazard Mitigation specialist, FEMA said.

Wildfire survivors do not need to visit a center in-person to apply for or update their assistance application. They can do so over the phone or online, according to FEMA.
