Evacuations ordered at several Wasco County campgrounds due to fire

A fire burning southeast of the Mt. Hood National Forest is estimated to be over 60 acres as of Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Four firefighting crews, four engines and two helicopters are battling the blaze which is burning in a heavily forested area on steep slopes.

Level 3 (Go Now) evacuation orders remain in place for Boulder Lake campground, Bonney Meadow campground, Badger Lake campground, Camp Windy, Post Camp campgrounds and Little Boulder Lake.

Forest Roads 4480, 4481 and 4890 also remain closed.

The evacuation orders were issued by the Wasco County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday afternoon following reports of a fire burning near Boulder Lake and Bonny Meadow campgrounds.

The sheriff’s office said the cause of fire is under investigation.

The public is being asked to avoid the area and nearby trails.
