Clark County deputies shot and killed a man during a welfare check in Brush Prairie, northeast of Vancouver, early Tuesday morning.
A woman had called 911 just after midnight to report her mother was in danger, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies later learned a male family member may have been holding the woman’s mother against her will.
Deputies at the scene say they attempted to detain the man, but he pulled out what appeared to be a firearm and they shot him. The woman involved was taken for evaluation at a nearby hospital. The sheriff’s office said no deputies were hurt in the shooting.
Five Clark County deputies are now on critical incident leave. Investigators say all five were wearing body cameras and video of the incident will be released later.
Police have not yet released the names of any of the people involved.
