It was too snowy access the slopes at some of Northwest Oregon's best-known downhill ski areas on Tuesday, as extreme weather prompted the Mt. Hood Meadows, SkiBowl and Timberline ski areas to close for the day. U.S. Highway 26 was closed to traffic for a nearly 20-mile stretch.
Wind and snow conditions are so extreme that many snow plow drivers can not see the roads well enough to plow them. In Eastern Oregon, Interstate 84 was intermittently closed and reopened through the afternoon, and the interstate was closed through the Columbia River Gorge
