The bitter and protracted battle over the Jordan Cove Energy Project has finally come to a close. The Calgary-based Pembina company has formally asked federal energy regulators to withdraw authorizations for the proposed pipeline and liquified natural gas export terminal in southwest Oregon.
The populations of sunflower sea stars, bull kelp and abalone have all been declining across the Southern Oregon coast. A recent $250,000 federal grant has been awarded to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to study the decline.
Green crabs are native to Europe and showed up on the west coast in the late '80s. In the past five years, they’ve started eating their way through local crab populations and harming marine habitat in Oregon and Washington.
If votes continue to lean towards "yes," the Oregon Coast city will begin to tax prepared food sales. Voters still have until Nov. 16 to resolve any challenged ballots, however, and every ballot makes a huge difference in this case.
